Transforming energy from atom

On going projects

The Nuclear Energy group at SET center has been working on a range of strategically important projects including:

  • Development of high performance thermoelectric energy harvester for nuclear safety applications
  • Development of passive safety systems for SMART reactor
  • Integration of nuclear reactors with desalination system
  • Development of light weight radiation shielding materials
  • Characterization of Saudi Arabian ore for qualitative and quantitative estimation of a nuclear fuel content
  • Nondestructive performance evaluation of nuclear materials by the laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS)
  • Nuclear security and safeguards applications in detecting illegal nuclear materials
SET short track projects

Development of high performance thermoelectric energy harvester for nuclear safety applications

In this research, we will develop power safety sensors and communication devices for reactor safety. This system will provide an additional level of defense at nuclear facilities to ensure that their vital safety functions remain operational over a sufficient period of time and maintain control over the facility. A major concern in this area is the safe storage of this nuclear fuel and to provides online monitoring in process industry.

Development of Innovative nano-composites electro spun nano fiber for radiation shielding applications

In this research work, we will develop an innovative polymer nano-composite material that will be lightweight and non-toxic in nature. The aim is also to developed transparent radiation shielding glass. The significance of the research also lies in their applicability in radiology department of hospitals and research centers where the harmful radiations can be blocked by utilizing the lightweight cloths more efficiently.
